About Us!

Our Shop in MichiganWe opened the Button Hole In August 1981. I was a med tech who loved to sew and had several children to sew for. I could never find just the fabric I wanted in our area, so I decided to venture out on my own. I never intended to be a quilt shop, but was talked into trying it by several of my customers. I was absolutely prepared to hate quilting (I hated putting a hem in by hand). Much to my surprise, I absolutely loved it. In 1996 we sold our building and built a new building on a vacant lot just down the street in the center of our Victorian downtown. We have had our brick and mortar store for 26 years (1981 – 2007) and this year (2007) we decided we would semi retire. Thom was our part time sewing machine repairman for many years, but retired from UPS in 2003 and has been full time machine repair here at the store since then. We will close our “store front” in July of 2007. We will continue our website and Thom will continue to do sewing machine service part time with our back door entrance. We will put our hours of operation on the answering machine for him. We have loved every minute of our store and I will miss meeting our customers face to face, but we are in our 60’s and it is definitely time for family. We have 8 beautiful grandchildren and we want time to “play”.
